In the year 2017 Indian steel industry has grown by 5.9 Percent as compared to 2016. Presently steel industry has a capacity to produce 102 million tones of steel every year.
In the year 2015 17 the Steel export has increased by 102 % and import decrease by 36.6 to 7.6 mT. If we see the year over steel induction then we get to know that there is a growth of 5.2 which is 64.8 mT.

As India's growing economy several investments has been fetch by several Steel companies. As per the data shared by department of industrial policy and promotion, Indian steel sector has received a foreign direct investment of US Dollar 10.4 billion between April 2000 to September 2017.

3. Tata Steel which is run and managed by Tata Group of Companies, has been planning to increase their production capacity of one of their plant in Kaling nagar from 3 million tonnes to 8 million tonnes
Government initiatives to strengthen steel industry
Government of India is completely focused on infrastructure and Road projects that will boost the demand of Steel in India.
The Union Cabinet has approved national Steel policy which will help Indian steel industry to be competitive. Under NSP india will target to produce 300 million tons of Steel by 2030.
Under the digital India vision by the government, Indian government has launched a platform named metal Mandi that will sells steel products online.

India is focusing on capturing second position as Steel manufacturing country and target to achieve production of 300 million tons of steel by 2025. Once we achieve this, we will become second largest steel producer of the globe.

This plant is located strategically in Jharkhand’s Singhbhum area, which is rich in haematite iron ore and near Jharia and Raniganj coal mines.Kalingnagar Steel Plant (Tata Steel) – Kalingnagar Steel plant at Orissa, is Tata Steel’s second largest steel plant, which started its operation in the year 2016. The plant is spread in 3470 acres of land and has total capacity of 6 MTPA. It was constructed in two phases of 3 million tons each. This plant has a captive power plant of 3X67.5 MW. Bhilai Steel Plant (SAIL) – Founded in the year 1955 at Bhilai, Chattisgarh, this steel plant is SAIL’s most profitable production facility. Bhilai Plant is country’s sole producer of rails, Heavy Steel Plates, and Structural Steel. As a fact, BSP has won “Prime Minister’s Trophy for best integrated steel plant” 11 times. Rourkela Steel Plant (SAIL) – Rourkela Steel Plant or RSP is another leading Steel plant of Steel Authority of India. Established in the year 1955 at Rourkela at Orissa, this steel plant is currently has capacity of producing 4.5 million tons of hot metal, 4.2 million tons of crude steel, and 3.9 million tons of saleable steel. RSP’s major units are Ore Bedding and Blending Plant, Coke Oven, Sintering Plant, Blast Furnaces, Plate Mill, Hot Strip Mill, and Cold Rolling Mill.
Vizag Steel Plant (Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited) – VIzag Steel plant is located at Vishakahapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This Steel plant is India’s sole shore-based steel plant which is spread in 33000 acres of land. Currently, the plant has installed capacity of 3.6MTPA and Government of India has invested to increase its capacity to 6.3MTPA.
Dolvi Steel Plant (JSW Steel) – In the year 2010, JSW steel acquired majority of stakes in Dolvi Steel Plant located at Dolvi, Maharashtra. This plant is an integrated steel plant, which has capacity of producing 3.3 MTPA of steel. The plant is located at west coast of India, which give logistic advantages to the company. Currently, this plant is catering to automotive, LPG cylinder-makers, cold rollers, oil and gas sector and consumer durables industries.
IISCO Steel Plant (SAIL) – IISCO Steel Plant of SAIL or Steel Authority of India Limited is an integrated steel plant located at Burnpur, West Bengal. Founded in the year 1918, this steel plant has crude steel production capacity of 2.5 million tons per year. In the year 2015, SAIL spent Rs. 16000 Crore in modernization of IISCO plant.
Durgapur Steel Plant (SAIL) – SAIL's Durgapur Steel Plant or DSP was established in the year 1959, with the help of United Kingdom. At that time, it had a production capacity of 35 lakh tons of steel and iron. Currently, DSP is capable of producing 1586000 tons of Salable steel, 58000 Wheels & Axles, and 207000 of Structural steel. This plant is strategically located at Durgapur area of West Bengal, which is close to coal mines and limestone reserve.
JSPL Chhattisgarh Steel Plant – Jindal Steel & Power Limited or JSPL’s plant at Rajgarh in Chhattisgarh is world’s largest rotary kiln-based sponge iron plant. This plant has installed capacity of 3 million tons per annum. They are investing to increase the capacity to 10 MTPA. This plant churns out variety of steel products such as Sponge Iron, Parallel Flange Beams & Columns, Coils, Angles & Channels, TMT bars, and Wire Rods etc.

Tata Steel India posts highest ever output at 12.48 MT in FY18
Good News call Tata steel share holders, in this financial quarter Tata Steel has reported highest ever output With the production of 12.48 million tonne (MT) of the steel. This happened because of the excellent performance from the Kalinganagar plant, here companies using modern technology and latest machinery.Overall the Company production has increased by 7 per cent as compared to 11.68 MT the company produced in the last financial year. In the financial year 2016-17, company had registered a sales of 10.97 MT . This is the first time company has able to achieve the target of export of 1 million tonnes of steel at annual exports.
India grab second position in crude steel production
Good news for India as India grab second position in crude steel production. The overall production capacity of crude Steel in India is no 8.4 million and the in last one year, steel companies has worked very hard and now the production capacity of India is increased by 3.4%.The global crude steel production(by all the companies of the world) was 132 million tonne which was 3.5 percent more from the last year. As India's production capacity has increased because of that India grabbed second position after Japan slipped to third position.

Tata Steel offered to pay Rs 35,200 crore in cash, and remaining Rs 27,000 crore into equity, to take over Bhushan Steel Ltd. As per the counsel for the committee of creditors, Tata Steel which is a leading steel manufacturing company of India has offered to pay Rs 35,200 crore in cash, and remaining Rs 27,000 crore into equity, to take over Bhushan Steel Ltd. With this move Creditors will get 12.27 percent equity in Bhushan Steel.
With this deal Tata Steel will able to expend their operations, presently bhushan Steel has a financial debt of Rs 56,051 crore and operational debt of Rs 1,050 crore and company has a liquidation value of Rs 14,541 crore.

Thyssenkrupp deal to help Tata Steel strengthen India base: N Chandrasekaran
Tata Steel Europe and Thyssenkrupp has joined hands to strength the production of steel. As per Mr Chandrasekaran - Tata Steel is in expension mode and company is planning to increase the production from the current 13 MT of capacity to around 25 MT," Chandrasekaran.
